Columbine
Aquilegia bertolonii (Bertoloni’s columbine)
The flower border at the base of the natural stone wall flanking the road to
the principal access of the Residenza Del Sole in Gressoney consists mainly of
lupines, white gypsophila (soap wort) and aquilegia bertolonii. The various plants
alternate in their blooming and go from June to mid July, by which time the red
roses of the roundabout at the entrance and the rugosa roses in the area of the
open-air solarium and in the park have begun to open. Other varieties of columbine
may be seen in the Regina Margherita Botanical Garden at Castel Savoia.
